Reading Wayne's posting of Maine's schedule reminded me of something I watched
all season on HOCKEY-L. Now that we're "out of season," I feel more
comfortable pointing out a few small details:

Alaska is abbreviated "AK"; Alabama gets "AL".

University of Alaska-Fairbanks is known to all its alumni as "UAF"; while its
sister school in Anchorage is known as "UAA".

UAF's nickname is The Nanooks - an Eskimo word for Polar Bear. UAA goes by the
nickname of Seawolves - no one has ever seen a real seawolf, but it sounds
fierce, so they're happy with it.

With both Alaskan schools about to become much more involved in the mainstream
of Div. I hockey, I figure it's about time we got the abbreviations right... :)
