After watching the replay of this 4 times in the local sports
bar (I still think it's the most awesome thing I've ever seen),
I went home and tried it in the kitchen (sorry, I didn't make
ice on the floor first).
IF you have enough stick wax on the blade, and IF the blade
is flat enough, it is very easy to do this. Legg must have
some special wax (or other substance) that allows him to do
this after using the stick for a time on the ice, because
the wax gets wet and loses grip (I tried it in my league
warmups last night as well).
After discussing it with a co-worker this morning, an AHL
player by the name of Bill Armstrong of the Albany River
Rats made this shot famous last season. It was named the
"DO IT" shot, because the crowd would yell "DO IT!" every
time he went behind the net.
