Hello
I am looking for info on how Pound met Jamie de Angulo. Any info on their relationship would be much appreciated.
De Angulo, born Paris 1888, was an American ethnologist, psychiatrist (graduate of John Hopkins medical school), horse rancher, poet, novelist, Jung's chosen translator, professor at UC Berkeley, salvage anthropologist (he wrote dictionaries and grammars for 18 Native American languages) and hobo.
Pound and de Angulo were reportedly in continuous communication during the 1950's.
One of de Angulo's poems along with some sketch art of his is on page 242 of Pound's "Pavannes and Divagations". It is in French. Pound has provided an English translation. This translation, like many of Pound's, was probably intended to be read along with the original and not primarily as a substitute for the original.
