A hard fought defensive game with some great goalie saves, especially by
Chad Alban, was played in a snowy East Lansing. A little over 6,000 fans
braved the weather.
State scored first on a York breakaway near the end of the first period.
Ferris scored about 30 seconds later with a quick wrister by Steinmetz
which I think hit the pipes. State turned up the pressure during the last
6 minutes of the second period but couldn't score. With about 8 minutes
to go in the third Berens scored on a very quick wrap-around shot.
Earlier in the second period an apparent State goal was reviewed and
dis-allowed
although the goal judge turned on the light.
Ferris pulled their goalie late in the game and an empty netter was
scored by Berens his second goal of the game. State had 30 shots and
Ferris 18 shots.
