Unofficial summary, as is usually the case. I believe an assist
was added to David Oliver on Brian Wiseman's Friday night game-
winner because he was credited with 5 points on the weekend.
I had typed up several pages of comments over the weekend, most of
which have already been mentioned somewhere on the list, so I'll
just touch on a few things.
Friday's game was FANTASTIC. This is what I live for.
Clutching, grabbing, holding, hooking, checking, roughing and
a couple of runs at the goaltenders.
Lake Superior did make some uncharacteristic defensive
mistakes, particularly on Friday.
In defense of Lacher, he really didn't play that bad on Friday
and he was shredded by Michigan's power play on Saturday.
I've seen a couple of people cut into him on the list but,
IMHO, he's still the best starting goaltender in the CCHA
right now. Also, Michigan State's Buzak is also playing
better than last season and is deserving of some All-CCHA
recognition.
For those of you who saw Friday's game on Prime, Michigan's
Ron Sacka was able to play on Saturday. He was drilled by
LSSU's Danny Angelelli in the third period on Friday. And
Shegos was correct in saying that you only get two steps in
college hockey. :-)
As for Saturday, a very different story. Not only did
Michigan shut down the Laker power play, but they went wild
when they had the man advantage. At least two of Michigan's
power play goals were scored less than 10 seconds into the
penalty.
And you read the box score correctly...only 12 Laker shots on
goal. The score was only 5-2, but this is the worst pasting
I've ever seen LSSU take.
Next up for Michigan is a single game (Saturday) at Notre Dame
then a home-and-home battle with Michigan State on Jan 21-22.
