CCHA TO STAY WITH TWO REFEREE, ONE LINESMAN OFFICIATING SYSTEM
In a six-five vote of Central Collegiate Hockey Association Athletic
Directors during the annual league meeting held in Ann Arbor, all CCHA
games for the upcoming season will be officiated by two referees and
one linesman. All four Division I conferences will be using the two
referee, one linesman system for the 1993-94 campaign.
CCHA Council earlier extended the contract of Commissioner Bill Beagan
through June 30, 1997.
A total of five CCHA underclassmen have opted to turn professional.
Leading the group was the 1992-93 Central Collegiate Hockey Association
Player-of-the-Year Brian Savage from Miami University, who reportedly
signed a three-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens. University
of Illinois at Chicago goaltender Jon Hillebrandt signed with the New
York Rangers, while Western Michigan blueliner Scott Chartier, a member
of the 1992-93 Canstar/CCHA All-Rookie team, inked with the Anaheim
Mighty Ducks. Michigan defenseman Aaron Ward is close to signing with
the Detroit Red Wings, while former WMU Bronco defenseman Chris Belanger
is trying to sign a professional contract.

I'll add that Ward did sign with the Red Wings, reportedly a 3-year
contract in the $1.5M-$1.6M range.
