From the Minnesota Daily, 1/29/91:
(in reference to the Minnesota-Wisconsin game in Madison on 1/25/91)

"As the fighting on the ice broke up, a brawl in the stands erupted
involving Gopher defenseman Sean Fabian's father, Jake Enebak's father, and
several Wisconsin fans. Sean Fabian tried to go over the glass of the Gopher
bench but was restrained by student trainer John Hamre.
"The elder Fabian and Enebak were escorted out of the arena by three
uniformed police. No charges were filed, according to Dane County Coliseum
security."

From the Minnesota Daily, 12/3/90:
(in reference to the Minnesota-North Dakota game in Grand Forks on 12/1/90)

[Preceding paragraphs describe a fight between Gopher captain Ben Hankinson
and Sioux captain Dave Hakstol.]

"Fans also got into a combative mood, with John Hankinson, Ben's father,
taking center stage.
"The elder Hankinson, a quarterback for Minnesota in the mid-1960's, tried
to break up an argument between a Sioux fan and a Gopher fan. But the North
Dakotan turned on Hankinson, who received a police escort out of the arena to
a standing ovation.
"'Ben was on the bench nudging guys saying, "That's my dad. That's my
dad,"' Woog said, laughing at the whole incident, but pointing out that he's
not supportive of his players fighting."

It seems clear to me that the Gophers have the toughest group of dads in
all of college hockey. Perhaps they should start attending games wearing
black leather jackets, with buck-toothed skull and crossbones on the backs.
