That seems less problematic to me.  Obey the conference o.t. rules, and if
no goal results, then apply the NCAA rules.  Game goes in the books as a
conference tie but an NCAA win or loss.  Inelegant (okay, that's being
charitable), but it satisfies both conference and NCAA criteria.
 
Added to which, what other choice is there?
 
I don't recall the Beanpot/HE game -- was that at the Gahden or the Fleet,
and who was the
"home" team?
