As a loyal UNH student, I used to delight in travelling to Merrimack College for games between the two teams. One thing we used to love to do was yell "Division Two" whenever the opportunity presented itself. This was a good 10 years after Merrimack had joined Hockey East and Division I; we would very likely not have even remembered the fact (college students have short memories), except that the rink and facilities were so obviously inferior to what the rest of the league had. There are high schools in the area with better facilities.
The fact that Ron Anderson was able to run a fairly successful program despite the lack of support from his own administration speaks volumes about the man. He is obviously committed to his players, both athletically and academically. I am sure he will land on his feet somewhere, hopefully with a school that will provide him with true division I resources. Whether Merrimack's hockey program can recover the loss of Anderson, particularly without more support from the administration, is very much in doubt.
