From the Brown Women's Holiday Tournament:

12/28/97: rumored results :)
   UNH 6 vs. PC 1
   Brown 4 vs. Minn. 3
Apparently UNH played a strong game against PC, and Brown's victory over
Minnesota was stronger than the score appears.

12/29/97:
Game 1:
   Minn. 3 vs. PC 0
See Richard Hungerford's informative review on this list.

Game 2: UNH vs. Brown

I'll do this as an unofficial and annotated box, since that's how I have
notes. Text in square brackets is my commentary and may be ignored :).

12/29/97 Brown University Holiday Hockey Tournament
Brown Bears vs. UNH Wildcats (Women)
Meehan Auditorium, 7:00, approximately 150 attending

Goalies:
Brown #35 Lauren Goldstein (stats unknown)
UNH #31 Alicia Roberts (1.16 GAA, .939 save %)

[Goldstein is a first-year playing second to last year's stand-out Ali
Brewer. While less rock-solid dependable than Brewer, Goldstein has more
of a flair for the fantastic save, and is much more adventurous about
coming out of the net. Roberts is a sophmore, and looked as solid as
 her stats show.]

Period 1:
02:47 UNH #15 Wilson, interference
06:14 UNH #20 Ledder, interference
16:26 Brown #21 Long, cross-check
16:58 UNH GOAL (PP) #5 Fisher (#4 Brodt)
17:31 UNH #11 McKenzie, holding

[The UNH goal came out of a scuffle in front of the net. Senior Captain
Brandy Fischer, clearly one of the leaders of this UNH team, grabbed the
loose puck about ten feet out from the post, then put a smooth shot low
and in straight to the post at Goldstein's left. The puck caromed off
that post across to the other and in.
Both teams showed good team play and individual talent in this period,
and both had multiple good chances to score. Brown has clearly gotten
over their new-blood communications problems from the beginning of the
season, and for the duration of this period they were playing strongly.
#19 Julie Iler and first-year #22 Cara Gardner lead the defense and
spurred the offense with great hustle and strong starting runs with the
puck. Goldstein is extremely talkative in net, and the one that got past
her was unfortunate (although deserved by Fisher!). The UNH D in
general was solid and the offense is quite dangerous, breaking out in
good runs several times. The entire team seems well-coordinated and
 skilled.]

Period 2:
05:00 UNH GOAL
[I was at the wrong end of the ice for this one, and they never
announced the credits. The shot came from outside at Goldstein's
left side and deflected off at least one stick and one skate before
  finding the net.]
05:24 Brown #19 Iler, roughing
[A weak call (yeah, yeah) as Iler "guides" a UNH player away from
  Goldstein after a cover.]
05:46 UNH GOAL (PP) #11 McKenzie (#8 Holmes, #5 Fisher)
06:20 UNH #11 McKenzie, tripping
[Sophmore McKenzie is clearly another leading force for UNH, although
like Brandy Fisher she seems to be ahead in playmaking, scoring, and
  penalties.]
08:27 UNH GOAL #11 McKenzie (#24 Luongo)
[McKenzie stepped out of the box to find a loose-gliding puck in front of
her and the Brown D behind her. She was able to step up and attack
1-on-1 from Goldstein's right and beat hear high to the far corner in
  a textbook showdown goal.]
08:43 Brown #19 Iler, hooking
14:54 UNH GOAL #5 Fisher (#16 Cross, #12 Maher)
[Cross and Maher combined for a good pass and slapshot. Goldstein was
able to deflect the puck clear to her left with a legpad, but Fisher
was there to carry it around behind the net and tuck it in on
Goldstein's right low corner in a nice follow-the-shot goal.]
16:54 Brown #8 Kenney, holding
[Kenney called for a tangle but prevents a breakaway chance for UNH.]
[Goldstein has a fantastic double save shortly after this in the PP.]
18:20 Brown #18 Kauth, roughing (2:00)
18:20 UNH #12 Maher, roughing (double minor)
[Kauth took a charge down the ice, right-to-left, beating the sole UNH
defender. Roberts stonewalled the shot nicely and the whistle blew.
Kauth was headed left of the goal on momentum when Maher, charging down
the ice to reach the play, collided strongly with her and both came up
punching. Maher was charged with a double minor, and #7 Wildman served
2:00 as well for the second penalty, from the bench. This was a high-
point of tension in an increasingly tense period, and you could feel
Brown's frustration in a game that they needed to win to be counted at
the head of the pack going into the spring.]

[Brown lost their collective composure following the early goal and
penalty. While UNH continued to play strongly and to pour on the attacks,
Bruno became disorganised at those particular moments that lead to chances
and goals for an opponent. Around 8:00 Brown seemed to be getting it
back, but the second penalty to Iler and the Goal by McKenzie out of the
penalty box put them back under for a couple more minutes. Play was more
even again from 11:00 or so until Fisher's 14:54 goal, but on the whole
UNH was getting chances and Brown wasn't. Brown had only a handful of
shots in the period, although they did put together some good runs. Both
teams played the penalty kill well, ignoring McKenzie's out-of-box goal.]

Period 3:
[Brown starts on a short PP as Maher's minor carries over.]
05:58 UNH GOAL #23 Knox (#6 Thornton, #9 DeGriselles)
[Knox squeaks one past Goldstein after a scuffle in front of the net.]
07:45 UNH #12 Maher, interference?
[Not sure of the call. Maher takes the penalty to stop Brown from
following up a breakaway for a likely goal.]
07:52 Brown GOAL (PP) #18 Kauth (#9 Jones)
[Tamra Jones receives the puck behind an inside face-off to Roberts'
left. She centers smartly to Kauth who one-touches a mean slapshot
  into the webbing.]
08:47 Brown #8 Kenney, boarding
[An ill-advised check into the boards after the puck escaped into the
  Brown backfield causing a scuffle.]
08:52 Brown #19 Iler, cross-check
[On the outside face-off following Kenney's penalty, Iler is bumped into
a ref, pushes off her, and is called for a cross-check. You tell me.]
[This is Iler's third penalty and she hits the showers.]
10:38 UNH GOAL (5-3) #5 Fisher (#19 Heitzman)
[The Bears almost survived the 5-on-3, and deserved to, but UNH finally
capitalized as Fisher skates into a loose puck short center and 5's it.]
11:47 UNH GOAL #6 Thornton (#19 Heitzman)
[A hard slapper from left-center across and in.]
12:27 Brown GOAL #11 Graat (#9 Jones, #4 Regnier)
[#4 Carly Regnier, a blossoming junior, feeds it up to #9 Tamra Jones,
who goes around behnind and tries a stuff that almost gets past Roberts.
Roberts struggles and manages to knock the drifting puck out into the
crease, but #11 Jill Graat, fairly quiet up till now this game, is there
to dig it away from Roberts' cover attempts and finish it over her into
the net. Graat would have several more good chances, including a
  near-miss drive at 19:58]
12:56 UNH #24 Luongo, holding
[Good play preventing another close Brown chance.]
19:14 UNH #6 Thornton, hooking

[Brown pulled back together for parts of this period, and put on a much
stronger show, with great moments. UNH held strong though, showing why
they're on top of the league.]

Summary:
This was a good game, not great for Brown (or Brown fans). UNH is really
on top of their game, skating well, passing well, scoring well. I wonder
how Ali Brewer would have been in net for Brown, but Goldstein turned in a
nice performance with some really out-there saves. See also my opening
comments. I have trouble seeing anyone slow this UNH team down, though.
Brown needs to step up their game if they want to "succeed, not just
survive", in the spring upper-crust.
