Due to my short attention span, I don't recall seeing the explanation for
the penalty. The following excerpt, from Gregg Wongs column in yesterdays
St. Paul Pioneer Press, sheds some light on the matter...

"Picky, picky: Under NCAA rules, the home team must skate onto the ice
before the visitor before the game and before each period. Boston College
learned that the hard way in Sunday's 5-1 loss to Boston University. The
visiting Terriers beat the tardy Eagles onto the ice before the game, so the
referee assessed a bench penalty, meaning BC began the game skating a man
short."
