As I was reading this weeks DROP THE PUCK I compiled some worthless stats.
These are as of last weekends games.
The first line is a difference in points between the top 2 scorers for each
team. The second line is the difference between the top 5 scorers.
The 3rd line is the total points of the top 3, the 4th line is the top
3 goal scorers totals, the 5th is for the total team goals, and the
last line is for the % of goals that the top 3 players have scored.

1-5 7 12 17 23 16 33 11 18 4 29

totGo 106 126 108 86 102 117 93 123 116 119
% 37.7 43.7 44.4 55.8 52.9 46.1 43.0 40.7 37.9 41.1
I think the main reason I did this was to see just how balanced
St Cloud is in scoring, with only 4 points separating their
top 5 scorers, and AA is close behind in this area.
One other oddity from this list is from UMD. The difference between
the top 2 scorers is 21 points, more than the difference between
1-5 on 7 of the other 9 teams. This stems from yet another outstanding
year on the ice for Chris Marinucci who leads the WCHA in
scoring 34games 30 goals 26 assists for 56 points. This means he
has over 25% of the goals and a hand in 48% of the total goals.
(This is similar to Pat Mikesch of MT , 10-30-40 or a hand in
46.5% of their goals but has 16 fewer points)
The other reason I wrote was to list some of the outstanding
freshman in the WCHA as listed in LETS PLAY HOCKEY. (The class
standing is from their 93-94 yearbook)
In no particular order
team Games Goals Assists Points Pos
Todd Bethard AA 30 4 14 18 D
Eric Rud CC 34 3 11 14 D
Brad Federenko UMD 33 13 22 35 F (2nd on tm.)
Landon Wilson UND 31 17 14 31 F (leads tm.)
Dean Seymour NM 33 12 26 38 F (2nd on tm.)
In this weeks LPH they have an article on Landon Wilson stating how
much he moved around while his father, Rick Wilson, who played in the
NHL. He left California his senior year of HS to play in Dubuque
of the USHL.
As far as goalies I'd give mention to Toby Kvalevog of UND, he's played
in 28 of 34 games for the Sioux. (3.88 GAA .880 Save % 10-14-3 record)
