Maybe somebody from North Dakota could tell me how serious the situation
is concerning the changing of the University name. If I were a member
of the Souix tribe, I would look at that name and logo with pride.
People will argue about anything to make a point. In this Politically
Correct period where we see every Ethnic Minority splitting itself away
from the mainstream and forming there own Fraternities, Sorrorities,
Businesses etc, etc. You would think that an athletic logo and name
would be spared from this scrutiny. Maybe UND should change its name to
the fighting Lakota. As for the Star Tribune getting involved in this,
they are not a political action commitee or are they Native Americans.
They should be responsible enough to report the news as it happens.
Instead they want to create news by jumping on any issue to make a
point. I don't see anybody getting upset with names that refer to people
as an ethnic race, like in the Olympics the announcers say the words
Finns, Czechs, Swedes, and Poles. These all refer to different ethnic
people. Sports has always been a part of America and the names of teams
should be left alone.
