Howard Named Defensive Player of the Week
ORONO, Maine-- University of Maine goaltender Jimmy Howard (Ogdensburg,
N.Y.) was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. He made
32 saves in 4-2 victory over 11th-ranked Harvard and held the Crimson
scoreless on five power play opportunities.
Howard is 9-1-0 on the season with a 1.58 goals against average and a .942
save percentage and has won his last eight decisions. Howard leads the
nation in save percentage, is tied for first in shutouts and ranks third in
goals against average.
The Black Bears, 13-1-2 on the season, enjoy a 13-day break before they
return to action. Maine will face Cornell next in the opening round of the
Everblades College Hockey Classic in Estero, Fla., on Saturday, Dec. 28.
