Ladies and Gentlemen,

A terrific start to the season! I'm excited, as I'm sure all of you
are as well. I promise not to take up much time with this message, I
just had a couple points I wanted to bring up to the list.

First, as many of you know, many moons ago I announced I would be
adding a Co-Administrator to ME-HOCKEY to help share the
responsibilities. I felt after some of the discussions this past
summer that having just one person in charge and participating in the
list could potentially be problematic. Effective immediately I have
named Holly Robinson ([log in to unmask]) as Co-Admin to ME-HOCKEY.
Holly has been with the list since it's inception, and in fact has been
very interested in helping me out for quite some time now. I
appreciate her patience and her support of the list. She's going to
make an excellent addition to the list. I know I'm very excited to
have her involved.

The other issue I wanted to bring up is that someone wrote to me
privately today asking why I censored their post to ME-HOCKEY. We
don't censor anyone on ME-HOCKEY, but I can understand how that can be
misunderstood so I felt like it was important to address this to the
group.

ME-HOCKEY is a "moderated list" which means that when someone joins
ME-HOCKEY they cannot post unless the moderator (me) approves the
message. This protects the list from being spammed, or people from
just posting inflamatory material. When a person is under "moderated
status" you will receive a message saying that the message has been
sent to me for approval. Here is what that looks like:

-- example :

Your message dated Tue, 21 Oct 1997 21:09:27 -0700 (PDT) with subject
"test" has been submitted to the moderator of the ME-HOCKEY list:
Deron
Treadwell <[log in to unmask]>.

-- end of example

Anyone who posts frequently should not be on moderated status, which
means that whenever you send a message it goes right to the list.
After a person has made a couple posts I always change their status to
unmoderated. If your messages usually appear immediately on the list
and you do not receive this message you are NOT under moderated status,
therefore I see your post when it is distributed to the list like
everyone else does.

So for example, if you send a message to ME-HOCKEY, and do NOT receive
the above message and it does NOT appear on the list itself, something
probably happened to that message from the time your internet service
provider sent the message and when it was received by the University of
Maine System. This tends to happen from time to time (more often with
some services) and you should *definately* resend your message,
especially if 24-48 hours has passed without that message being
distributed.

So I hope I have not taken too much of anyone's time. I just wanted to
announce Holly's new role, and to clarify this situation with regard to
how the software works clearly. I think it is an easy thing to get
crossed up with, and I hope people understand now how things work.

ME-HOCKEY looks good, keep up the good work everyone!

Cheers,
Deron
