Kariya, Nault Honored By New England Hockey Writers Association


ORONO, Maine-- University of Maine men's ice hockey players Martin Kariya
(North Vancouver, British Columbia) and Francis Nault (Tracy, Quebec) were
both named to the 2002-03 New England Hockey Writers Association Second
Team.

Kariya saw action in all 39 games for the Black Bears and led the team in
scoring with 14 goals and 36 assists for 50 points. He notched seven power
play goals and two short-handed tallies. Kariya, who became just the ninth
player in UMaine history to score 50 or more goals and add 100 or more
assists, finished with 155 points in 156 career games. Kariya was named to
the Hockey East First Team.

Nault, who saw action in 39 games on the blueline for the Black Bears and
netted 10 goals and added 26 assists for 36 points, finished second among
Hockey East defensemen in scoring. Nault was named to the Hockey East First
Team and to the Inside College Hockey All-America Third Team.

The Black Bears finished the 2002-03 season with a record of 24-10-5 and
lost to Michigan in the Midwest Regional in Ann Arbor, Mich.
