Avalanche sign six players


DENVER (AP) - The Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday signed six
players who will report when training camp opens Sept. 8. Signing
were forwards Mike Craig, Dan Hinote and Ville Nieminen;
defensemen Dan Smith and BRIAN WHITE; and goaltender Frederic
Cassivi. Hinote, Nieminen and Smith played most of last season
for the club's American Hockey League affiliate in Hershey, Pa.,
and made several appearances with the Avalanche. WHITE and
Cassivi played all of last season in Hershey. Craig played last
season with the AHL's Kentucky team. He led the Thoroughblades in
goals (39) and points (78) while finishing sixth in the league in
scoring.
