From Umaine Today 7/12/00
The University of Maine Sports Information Office has released the
following information about Shawn Walsh's return from Boston:
University of Maine head men s hockey coach Shawn Walsh returned home
yesterday evening after being discharged from Boston Medical Center. He
will remain at home and continue his recovery from last Friday's
surgery to remove a cancerous kidney. "It s good to be home," remarked
Walsh. "I feel terrific, and as soon as I can get these darn staples
out, I'll be better. I am very grateful for the outpouring of support I
have received from my family, friends and the hockey community. I am
getting stronger everyday, and I am sure that being at home with my
family will only speed up my recovery." Walsh's surgeon, Urologist
Genero Carpinito, said, "Both the surgery and the postoperative course
went well. Shawn is in excellent spirits, and we expect for him to have
a full recovery from his surgery. It is however, important that we all
respect Coach Walsh's privacy at this time to ensure a full recovery."
