From Syracusecrunch.com, Steve Kariya scored goals 6,7,8,9 tonight!!!!
He also assisted on a goal! Alfie gets the win. -Jake

Syracuse, N.Y. (February 18, 2000)-Steve Kariya scored a Syracuse
franchise record four goals for the Crunch in a 7-4 win over the Albany
River Rats Friday night at the Onondaga County War Memorial.

It all started with a goal at 6:16 of the first period. Martin Gendron
started the play on a breakaway. Albany's defense caught Gendron,
forcing a pass to Kariya. Kariya fired a high rising shot from the slot
past a handcuffed River Rats goalie Frederic Henry.

Albany was able to get that back on a goal by Steve Brule less than
three minutes later.

Albany had only four healthy defensemen compared with seven for
Syracuse. It showed in the second period. Syracuse was able to light up
the River Rats for five goals in the period.

It was the second time this season that Albany has allowed five goals
in a period. It was the fifth time in Syracuse team history that the
Crunch scored five goals in a period.

Kariya again led the way with his second at 7:25. Albany quickly
responded with a goal by Brule 43 seconds later.

Then it was all Syracuse. Goals by Brian Bonin, Reggie Savage and
Gendron sent Henry to the bench in favor of Jean-Francois Damphousse.

Albany had new life and scored on a goal by Sylvian Cloutier that
interrupted the Syracuse string at 14:10.
Kariya wasn't done. Josh Holden broke in on Damphousse in the final
minute of the period and rang a shot off the post. The deflection went
to Kariya with an open goal to ram home the hat trick goal.

The five goals scored by Syracuse came in a span of 11:58, breaking the
mark of 12:02 for the five fastest goals in a game and a period. The
old mark was set 1994. It was the first game of the Syracuse
franchise's first year a 7-7 tie with Albany.

Kariya iced the game and made Crunch history with an empty net goal in
the waning minutes of the third.
Vancouver Canucks first-round pick, defenseman Bryan Allen made his
professional debut in the game.
Allen, the fourth overall pick in the 1998 draft, is on a two week
conditioning assignment after recovering from a variety of off-season
injuries.
