I did not realize my comments would ruffle so many feathers. Mr. Tom Rowe, I do
not label myself as right or left wing. I also did not intend for this line of
communication to become a political debate.
Because of my environment I have become biased in the realm of U.S. vs other.
And I am thoroughly convinced that we as a nation are going to be in big
trouble if we don't start taking care of ourselves a little more, and poking
our noses into foreign affairs a little less.
As I have said on this list before, winning at all cost seems to be the only
goal of intercollegiate athletics. This is merely a symptom of the problem--
although probably not a major symptom.
I am in no way implying that we should take any offensive with foreign
students or countries. But apparently it's more important concentrate on
winning--whether you are choosing an athlete, choosing students to work on
research projects, or choosing products of a company.
