MEN'S HOCKEY FALLS TO CORNELL, 2-1
McKee stops 17 shots in Big Red victory

Cornell University got single goals in the second and third periods and
freshman David McKee made 17 saves in a 2-1 win over Rensselaer
Polytechnic
Institute (RPI) in an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) contest
before a crowd of 3,942 at the Houston Field House in Troy, N.Y. With
the
win, the Big Red improve to 13-7-6 overall and 11-5-3 in the ECAC. They
are now in sole possession of third place in the standing while the
Engineers, who are now 17-12-2 overall and 11-7-1 in the league, fall to
fourth place.

After a scoreless first period, Cornell's Greg Hornby put the visitors
ahead when he slid the puck into the back of the net at 13:36 of the
second
period. Hornby, a senior, tallied his fourth of the season from the
bottom
of the left faceoff circle off a backhanded pass from Mike Iggulden.
Mike
Knoepfli also assisted on the play.

The Big Red doubled their lead just 2:10 into the third period when Matt
Moulson ripped a wristshot from between the top of the faceoff circles
past
Engineers' netminder Nathan Marsters. Moulson notched his 16th of the
season with Cornell on the power play after picking up an errant
clearing
attempt by an RPI defenseman. The Engineers cut the lead in half when
Vic
Pereira scored from the slot off a cross-ice feed from Conrad Barnes at
7:41. For Pereira, a junior who tallied on a backhander along the ice,
the
goal was his third of the season.

McKee stopped seven shots in the first period, three in the second and
seven in the third, including one on a clean breakaway, to improve to
13-7-6 on the season. Marsters, who made several outstanding saves,
finished with 21 saves.

The Engineers finished the night 0 for 2 on the power play, snapping a
12-game streak of at least one extra-man tally in a game. Cornell, which
has now won five straight games, was 1 for 2 on the power play.

The Engineers return to action on Saturday night when they will host
Colgate at 7pm at the Field House. Cornell will play at league foe Union
on Saturday, also at 7pm.
