From AD McDonald's post, it appears that a lot more
schools than anybody thought are interested in the new D1
league.

QUICK SIDE: Name the new league

But for argument's sake lets say 12 teams originally join.
This could put D1 hockey past the magic number needed to
expand the tourny.

But, I think there is an NCAA regulation that states that a
conference has to be in business X number of years before
they get an automatic bid. This requirement was waived,
however, when Hockey East formed (and rightly so).

However, the situation here is a bit different. None of the
new schools plays a regular D1 schedule right now. Does
(should) the NCAA give an automatic bid to the new
conference?

I'd be in favor of giving 1 bid (reg season or tourny, it's up to
the conference) for the first few years. Let us see what
happens and then go from there.

Now if this all shakes out and things REALLY start jumping,
should the East reorganize into an Ivy, New England, Mid
Atlantic, and Empire conferences?

Joe

May vote for the new conference name is the Mid Atlantic
Collegiate Hockey Organization (MACHO)
