Most of your are probably tired of my mentioning my BU hockey
research, but I have a few question regarding the correct way to
record some statistics.
The first one has to do with the correct way to record a penalty on
which a penalty shot was awarded. Last year at the Face-Off
Classic in Albany RPI was awarded a penalty shot when Keith
Emery took down Brad Tapper. Emery's penalty was added to the
game summary (as can be seen on the ECAC stats site). The
penalty and 2 minutes were also added to Keith's penalties for the
season.
This year at the Badger Showdown in Milwaukee North Dakota was
awarded a penalty shot when Dan Cavanaugh received a delay of
game penalty for covering the puck in the crease. Cavanaugh's
penalty was added to the game summary (as can be seen on the
ECAC/WCHA stats site). However, the penalty and 2 minutes
were not added to Dan's penalties for this season.
I would appreciate it if anyone on this list can tell me the correct
way to record the infraction.
My second request has to do with how I should handles the Goals
Against Average for goalies back in the twenties. BU's first three
games played over two seasons where listed as being played in
two 15-minute periods. When BU started playing hockey regularly
in 1922-23 the games where usually three 15-minute periods until
the end of the twenties. NCAA rules called for three 20-minute
periods as early as 1928-29, but BU continued to play games of 15-
minute periods into the early thirties.
Should I base the goalies' GAA to reflect the 30 or 45 minute
games actually played at the time? Should I adjust the GAA to the
standard 60 minute game (at least from 1928-29)? I would
welcome your thoughts and opinions on this very much.
