I, too, have tried to stay out of the discussion regarding the top five
coaches but after Steve Klein's prompting I can no longer remain silent.

How any list of the top five could be compiled and not include Ron Mason is
beyond me. As Scott Monaghan and others have demonstrated via hard numbers,
Ron is a program builder in the truest sense of the word. He has laid the
foundation for three national championship level teams. He has also had a
hand in the "formative years" of at least two of the other top five
coaches: George Gwozdecky and Shawn Walsh. Jeff Jackson may also belong
on that list. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. I hope,
however, that he has the program building bug out of his system and will be
at Michigan State for many years to come!
