I don't think apologies are necessary. I've heard SLU referred to as the
Larries since I started watching college hockey a quarter century (gasp!)
ago. I don't believe anyone means anything derogatory by that term.
Teams acquire monikers other than their "official" nickname, for example
in Pittsburgh the Pirates are referred to as the Bucs quite often.
I don't see the problem here, let's enjoy the colour of college
hockey--this isn't rocket science.
