I think I may have a reason why the shootout at Maine was not too exciting.
They did not use the red lamps to signal goals; only the referee's signals was
used.
I was sitting in the first deck behind BU's goal. It is kind of hard to detect when a goal is scored at the other end. The rush of excitement is supplied
when I see the red lamp light, not a referee pointing at the goal. For
example, when the first player up, BU's Kaj Linna, scored his goal, we weren't
even sure if it was a goal initally since the red lamp didn't light. We soon
caught on that the lamp wasn't being used. It is hard to explain this, but
basically the immediate excitement of a goal scored was lost, thus it wasn't
as exciting. The action at BU's goal was much more exciting, however, since
I had a clear view of the goal.
I have attended three shootouts and this one was by far the least exciting.
I'm not positive, but not using the red lamp could have been a reason.
