The award consists of an actual folding chair used in the OSU penalty box
during the regular season, complete with a lovely bronze plaque bearing the
recipient's name. When the award was presented, the presenting off-ice
official quoted "Slap Shot" and a character's summation of the penalty box
(someone will have to fill in the character and all the rest of the
dialogue...I know how shameful it is that I don't have the movie committed
to memory). It's not the most penalty minutes--of course, that award would
go to Stevie Brent, with something like 108 minutes--but the player who
assumes the right attitude in the box. There's a certain air of disbelief,
a way of behaving in the box that gets the attention of the off-ice
officials. And, of course, the recipient must "feel shame." Jeff Winter
definitely deserved the award.
