I think the poor sportsmanship award goes to the players that knowingly use
illegal sticks, and the coaches that allow it (if they are aware of it).
Everyone was pissed at the coach of the Canadiens when he turned the tide
of the Cup finals against the Kings by catching someone (can't remember
who) with an illegal stick.  That led to a winning goal that led to the
cup.  All the players and fans that were complaining should have directed
their anger at the person that couldn't get with the rules while his team
was leading in the most important series they ever played in.
 
If the coach was so pissed off about it than maybe he can learn a lesson by
it.  If his players can't be trusted to follow the rules, than he should
check their sticks himself before the game.
 
Sorry for the NHL talk, but I think it is a good example for this case.
