For what it's worth I've sent a message off to Tammy Light for further
interpretation.

This is something Sue Tyler told me back in October.  Tyler said that the
NCAA gave Maine the option and they opted to play their schedule as is.
 
Now if Maine would have had to keep 9 games free for postseason play, why
would they do this?  I would also imagine Maine checked into the same
information I did before making a decision.
