Maine had a deadline to respond to the initial investigation and they had a
deadline to respond with their appeal. The NCAA takes time out for holidays,
conventions and meetings to find themselves a more suitable home? This reeks
bureaucracy! Their authoritative timing has cost Maine four All-Americans.
Now their counter to Maine's appeal will come right down to the line! Yes,
maybe in the long run it may work to our benefit. But, up front this
inappropriate response time has hurt Maine all year long. Obviously their
frequent leisurely conclusions are known nation wide. We're not the only
school who has athletes sitting out eligibility time. The NCAA functions like
big government, operational close-downs and committee on top of committee.
They're institutionally archaic.
I support letting colleges in on more of the policy making. The rules should
serve the colleges that they govern, not work as a detriment to the athletes
or programs themselves. For instance: the issue of athletic employment. From
what I've read and heard Maine has been exemplary in both content and
punctuality of response.
