I totally disagree with this sentiment.  My belief is that everyone who
attends the games and is supportive of the program is a real fan.  Are
you saying that students who attend the games do not want to to be
there???
I enjoyed the games while I was a student as much as I do now - I just
wish the skill level of the team had been at the high level it has been
at in the Shawn Walsh era while I was in school ;-)

I don't think Deron is espousing that we "treat people like dirt"...
I think he, like many others of us, recognize the need to instill the
energy of the students back into the program.  This is where the true
excitement of college athletics is generated!  I think the idea is that
there is a way to accomodate season ticket holders, students, and other
ticket holders at every game so that everyone can get the most bang for
the buck!!
 
If you provide the right atmosphere, my belief is that the students will
come again...  I can't believe the students at UMaine would stand behind
their team any differently than the UNH students do now...  I think the
current student apathy can mostly be traced to the loathsome ticket
distribution and seating scheme at present - it has to be changed!
