Average ranking of each league(#teams):
thid week last week
WCHA(10): 19.70 19.10
HEA(09): 22.78 22.89
CCHA(10): 24.70 25.70
ECAC(12): 18.17 17.83
On this week's ranking ...
1. UVM remains 1st, but continues to edge back to the pack.
2. The top-ten are as closely rated as we've seen from any top-ten
in recent years.
3. BC, UML, BGSU and Wisconsin as a group (in these rankings)
moved up substantially this week in rating, but not necessarily
ranking.
4. Clarkson jumps 4 places to #5; two weeks ago Clarkson was #15.
5. This was a week of mixed success for 23 of the 34 teams (that played
more than one game).
On "The Heal Point System" ...
The Heal Point System is used to rank secondary schools in Maine in
several sports. The Heal Point System was developed many years ago by
Durwood Heal to rank Maine secondary school basketball teams.
On the Maine secondary school calculation ...
"P.I." stands for "Preliminary Index". "P.I." is calculated for each
team by giving a team 40 points for each win and 20 points for each tie,
and then dividing by the number of scheduled games. Minimum "P.I." is
1.00.
"T.I." stands for "Tournament Index" and is used to rank the teams.
"T.I." is calculated for each team by summing the "P.I." of the
opponents for each win, one half the "P.I." for each tie, then dividing
by the number of games scheduled and then multiplying by 10.
Note: This Division I college hockey "Heal Point System" ranking uses
the number of games played instead of the number of games scheduled.
Since all games in Division I college hockey are normally played,
there is no difference between this and the traditional Heal Point
System at end of season and this method produces better preliminary
results.
Game scores for this ranking have been provided by Mike Machnik and
INFO-HOCKEY-L, The College Hockey Information List, an internet mailing
list hosted by The University of Maine System, sometimes supplimented by
other sources. Mr. Machnik's composite of all Division I men's ice
hockey games is available in the list archives
