PEORIA, Ill. (CP) - Josh Soares of Hamilton, a college hockey all-star
with the Maine Black Bears, has signed an amateur tryout contract with
the AHL's Peoria Rivermen. 
 
Soares, 25, played in all 40 of Maine's games and completed his
collegiate career when the Black Bears lost to Michigan State in the   
    NCAA Frozen Four semifinals. The five-foot-11, 202-pound forward
led the Black Bears in points (45) and goals (20), while leading Hockey
East with nine power-play goals and being named to the Hockey East
all-star second team.

Soares amassed 112 points (49-63) in 132 career games at Maine.
