"SUDDEN IMPACT"

Wisconsin's T. R. Moreau according to USCHO's Todd Milewski suffered two this
season. Another Wisconsin player was also downed by two.

Concussion is a frequent hockey-related term!

According to WCHA officials they started keeping track of these kinds of
injuries three years ago. Each school provides information which is analyzed
by a private company.
Some feel that this recent flood of head injuries is a "pattern" or "cycle"
that goes and comes. The end-result of this research would be to make changes
in the rules of the game which would enhance player safety. The debate goes
beyond NCAA player mandated helmut and mouthguard as a cure-all (cure-not).

Even Steve Dryden, Hockey News editor says the offical-dom of hockey is
resistant to change. He suggests "trends" should be looked into, like low
scoring, and a second set of eyes for calling penalties. Dryden suggests that
a committee should be formed to study issues like these. The first issue he
says is: Suter's attack on PAUL KARIYA, in hopes that the Blackhawks can
develop some "grey matter" on what he terms, "one of the most important issues
of the day."

In an attempt to uncover more facts regarding head injury online I discovered
other interesting newsie offerings including "headbutting" in the NHL and
interpretations on CFB (checking from behind)......and what is tolerable about
the "hack and sack" nature of the sport!? Like the NHL in its glut to expand
maybe college hockey's governing body doesn't spend research dollars either on
changing rules to make it a safer game.

To leave no stone unturned, I went to that site of sites!

                                                     NCAA

I went right to their research area and plugged into (because I'm not shy) a
question / response screen and asked away!!!!!! (-:

What is being done by the governing body of college sports to identify the
causes of reoccurring head injuries?

Are the rules of the college game regarding infractions and the officiating
format getting reviewed or accessed to insure safety for the players?

How does the NCAA go about the business of mandating change to insure player
safety?

I requested an email response!

Immediately, and I mean IMMEDIATELY I was emailed a response via
[log in to unmask] thanking me for my email submittal.

With this note: "Your comments and requests are important to us and we will
endeavor to handle them as soon as possible."

Watch for: How hard they Endeavor and how SOON, SOON is (-:
