A couple notes from UMaine Today:
 
0 The National Collegiate Athletic Association has announced its newest
group of Division 1 universities to receive NCAA certification.  UMaine
is on that list, completing a process that involved a self-study and a
peer-review examination.
 
0 Former UMaine hockey player Paul Kariya, now a member of the NHL's
Anaheim Mighty Ducks, will not be able to compete for the Canadian
Olympic team.  He has not yet recovered from a concussion suffered on
Feb. 1.  Kariya's brother and sister are student-athletes at UMaine.
