Having finally caught up on my reading, I'll throw in a couple
comments...

Ed had me laughing with his comments about Eric Boguniecki being the
most penalized UNH player since Jay Miller. Actually, Scott Malone
holds the record for UNH. I don't think Bogey was even in the running.

The "Beat 'em, Smash 'em" cheer somehow made it from the football field
into the Whittemore Center. I don't think any of the long-time hockey
fans like it, but we're pretty much down to two cheers, "U-N-H" and
"Beat 'em, Smash 'em" and we're simply not that creative. ;) The end
of the cheer is "Rip off his arms and legs (Ed forgot about the legs)
and beat him with the bloody stumps...arggghhhh".

As Dave Hendrickson correctly reported, the Whittemore Center was quiet
when Mowers was on the ice motionless with the exception of the random
cat calls directed toward the Maine bench. It was hardly severe and
continuous heckling directed toward Walsh. I wasn't counting, but I'd
guess there may have been 6 or 7 such jeers? One every other minute?

Seriously, I haven't heard any calls from the UNH camp for further
sanctions on Guite. I did post something along the lines of "I wouldn't
be complaining to the league office if Bertagna slapped him (Guite) with
a couple games" but it was followed with a ";)". I certainly hope that
wasn't the basis for people saying UNH is looking for more.

I did see the hit on Mowers, and immediately jumped up and called for
the major, but here's what I've written to other people. I'm glad
Mowers is OK. It's a scary thing to watch (the scariest thing I've ever
seen was when Bob Chebator took an open-ice hit in Snively and proceeded
to have seizure-like convulsions at center ice) and no one wants it to
happen to any player. In the wake of the injury to Travis Roy, we're
all that much more sensitive to the issue. I feel the call on Guite was
the right call. He's deserving of no more or less than he was already
penalized. The result of the hit was, more than anything, unfortunate.
That's it.

And Ed didn't seem to be able to get answer on Saturday evening, so I'll
help him out. UNH has one less Championship than Maine.

Enjoy the games this weekend.
