Maine Defeats Providence, 3-2
 
        ORONO, Maine. -- The University of Maine defeated the Providence
College
Friars, 3-2, in HOCKEY EAST action at Maine's Alfond Arena on Saturday,
Nov. 21.
        The Friars tallied the first goal of the game when Fernando Pisani
took a
draw on the face off during a power play and fed the puck to Mike
Omicioli
who wristed in a goal from the top of the left circle at 15:19 of the
first.
The Friars added to their lead when Rich Miller blasted a shot from the
right point past Maine netminder Mike Morrison at 17:23 of the first.
        The Black Bears' offense came to life in second period as they scored
three
unanswered goals.  Maine got on the scoreboard at 8:46 of the second
period
when Doug Janik blasted a shot from the point on the power play that
beat a
screened PC netminder Mark Kane.  Maine evened the game when Brendan
Walsh
skated down the left side and slid a low shot under Kane at 11:21.  Ben
Guite gave the Black Bears their first lead of the game when he kept the
puck on a two-on-one and sent a low shot into the right corner of the
net
for what proved to be the game-winning goal.
        With the win, Maine raised its record to 7-1-1 overall and  4-1-1 in
HOCKEY
EAST play, while Providence fell to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in league play.
        Providence returns to action on Friday, Nov. 27 against Princeton at
PC's
Schneider Arena Arena at 7:00 p.m.
