Average ranking of each league(#teams):

  WCHA(09): 17.40
   HEA(09): 20.11
  CCHA(11): 23.00
  ECAC(12): 23.58

On this week's games (all in fun) ...

- So much for the top three.

- So much for the "bye" being an advantage (only bye to win was BC)

- So much for the most powerful league (by above ranking), as the
WCHA gets shutout from the Frigid Four next week.

- Quiz for Easterners:

  1. Name one OSU player or coach, or the name of their home rink.

  2. Hum the Michigan Fight Song. Never mind; you'll have plenty of
practice this Thursday during their game with UNH.

- Quiz for Westerners:

  1. Why will some Michigan fans periodically whistle this Thursday?

  2. When arriving at Logan International Airport for the Frigid Four,
     should you rent a car?

On "The Heal Point System" ...

The Heal Point System is used to rank secondary schools in Maine in
several sports. The Heal Point System was developed many years ago by
Durwood Heal to rank Maine secondary school basketball teams.

On the Maine secondary school calculation ...

"P.I." stands for "Preliminary Index". "P.I." is calculated for each
team by giving a team 40 points for each win and 20 points for each tie,
and then dividing by the number of scheduled games. Minimum "P.I." is
1.00.

"T.I." stands for "Tournament Index" and is used to rank the teams.
"T.I." is calculated for each team by summing the "P.I." of the
opponents for each win, one half the "P.I." for each tie, then dividing
by the number of games scheduled and then multiplying by 10.

Note: This Division I college hockey "Heal Point System" ranking uses
the number of games played instead of the number of games scheduled.
Since all games in Division I college hockey are normally played,
there is no difference between this and the traditional Heal Point
System at end of season and this method produces better preliminary
   results.

Game scores for this ranking have been provided by Mike Machnik and US
College Hockey Online, sometimes supplemented by other sources. Mr.
Machnik's composite of all Division I men's ice hockey games is
available at http://www.uscollegehockey.com/ in the section marked
schedules and then Division I composite schedule.
