Oh come on! You've gotta get out more. :-)

The NCAA Men's Ice Hockey Tournament selection is done by formula based
100% on performance. Argue with the formula, if you'd like, but the
selections have nothing to do with politics or smoke-filled rooms
(unlike NCAA basketball which is more-or-less based on a formula).

There are a number of good sources of information on how the selections
are made. US College Hockey Online has a short description at

   http://www.uscollegehockey.com/news/1998/01/26_pwr.html

John Whelan has an excellent discussion of this at

   http://www.slack.net/~whelan/cgi-bin/tbrw.cgi?pairwise

I can especially recommend the recent article by Adam Wodon
on the subject, now available at

   http://www.uscollegehockey.com/tournament/032097.html

The March archives of Hockey-L also have significant discussion of the
tournament selection and seedings.

Deron may have had too good a time cheering on our favorite Black Bears
last weekend, because as DaveH pointed out, at least 3 teams were ahead
of Maine at the end.

Now if Maine had only scored the third goal of their last game,
*everything* would have been different! :-)

> Can't wait til October.

With the exception of the Final4 and a few months of warm weather ...
ME TOO! :-)

Cheers to our hockey bears that have again made us proud,
wayne
