I hate to admit this, but the last time I was in the Alfond was 1981 and I
was a student at the time. I remember the place going quiet at times, but
not very often. We had a tradition of never taking seats, but instead
standing at the rail near center ice. Attached to the guard rail were large
wooden section numbers, we would beat these like drums to add to cheering.
I'll apologize now to the people who sat in front of us, I am sure they
suffer from hearing loss.
I hope this tradition has lived on, if it hasnt, its time to restart it.
By the way, being a national championship team was a distant dream in those
years, it didnt matter.
