I am also an out-of-state student.
I agree with Heather Jordan. Many people where I am from know of Walsh
and not because the team won the NCAA's in 93. Many friends ask me
about the situation up here. And I have to tell them that the fans
here would rather support a Coach who almost destroyed an excellent
hockey team rather that the team itself.
You can't tell me this is not true because the day Walsh had his first
game with students---the first night against Providence--- the people
in the stands cheered louder when he walked out on to the ice than they
did throughout the rest of the game for the players. I would have
cheered for Walsh that night only if he had fallen on his face walking
out on the ice. Then he would have deserved a standing ovation.

Yes, Walsh built this hockey program, but he almost destroyed it. Yes,
I understand that the University sanctioned his actions that gave us
the violations, but because of him, other teams have to rearrange
scheduled games (Denver Tournament) because we can't be on TV and if we
have another screw up, we won't have a hockey Team. We can't
participate in the NCAA tournament again, either.

What exactly has Walsh given us except problems? I have yet to see
anything. Another coach, an honest, rule-abiding one can lead the team
to a championship, one that WON'T be questioned.

I love hockey, but Walsh is not what this program needs. We need a
good coach who can lead the team while abiding by the rules.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Ukeritis,
sophomore here at UM
