At Merrimack, we do not subtract the time that the goalie is pulled for an
extra attacker on a delayed penalty, but we do subtract it when he is
pulled in the final seconds of a period or when a team is behind late in a
game.
This is also the way I have seen most schools do it. However, the argument
for subtracting it on a delayed penalty makes sense. It's just that no one
I know does it that way.
But if somehow the defense scores into the empty net during the delayed
penalty (this has happened a couple of times over the years), the goalie
does not receive a minus nor should the goal be charged against him. That
is a point in favor of not counting the time he was out. I guess what it
comes down to is, it is extra work that no one seems willing to do. :-)
