This weekend will mark the last weekend ever in "old" Mariucci Arena. The
Gophers take on the North Dakota Fighting Sioux in a two-out-of-three series
for the start of the WCHA playoffs. One could say that "providence" had a hand
in the scheduling as North Dakota is one of the Gopher's oldest rivals. It
seems only fitting that they play against the Gophers in the last series ever
to be played in Mariucci Arena.
I learned today that on Monday March 15th the ice will come out and the
renovations will begin. Next week the Gophers will practice at the St Paul
Civic Center and in the following weeks they will probably rent ice time at
Augsburg College ice arena. This will be a sad weekend for the Gopher team
then also.
In a season where it seemed that everything was backwards, I guess this is a
good sign. Also hockey secretary Patti Babcock will be singing the National
Anthem next weekend at the Civic Center and currently the team is 4-0 when
she sings! Let's GO GOLD!!!
