From the Minnesota Daily, 1/28/92:
The hockey program at Mankato State starts its first season as a
Division I independent next year and is already committed to a difficult
schedule.
According to Maverick coach Don Brose, Mankato has scheduled home-and-home
series with the two Alaska schools, Alabama-Huntsville and Air Force next
season, as well as a visit to Ferris State of the CCHA. Although a new
6000-seat arena is still two seasons away, Brose is confident the Mavericks
can build a strong program and possibly join the WCHA within four years.
According to Brose, Mankato has contacted about half of the WCHA members
about scheduling games in the future, but none have had dates available.
Brose hopes to follow St. Cloud State's lead into full league membership.
