     Sorry to bring back a thread that's run it's course, but speaking of
     "chants", etc. by fans...

     Is anyone else bothered by the way some schools yell at key moments
     during the national anthem? I'm referring to my alma mater (RPI),
     Clarkson, and Union crowds (those are the only ones I know of, anyway;
     they're probably not the only ones).

     As an illustration, suppose these three schools were in Lake Placid at
     the same time. During the US National Anthem, the Union crowd would
     <<YELL>> first: "Oh say, can <<U>> see..." followed by the RPI fans:
     "And the rocket's <<RED>> glare..." and then the Clarkson section:
     "Gave proof through the <<KNIGHT>>".

     I'm all for school spirit and displaying it in a positive manner, but
     to me this seems to show a lack of respect for our country. I have
     several ROTC friends who cringe every time it happens. Roseanne
     Arnold and Kelsey Grammer, to name a few, have been taken to task for
     their less-than-patriotic renditions of the song; this practice seems
     no less excuseable. It's even more annoying when there's a live
     singer trying to do his/her best in front of several thousand people,
     and suddenly half the crowd is yelling just for a second. I would
     imagine that it would be quite disturbing.
