John Haeussler listed the stats for the first three years of
Michigan's class of 1997 and asked if any other classes from
other schools can be compared to it:

> NO NAME POS YR GP G A PTS PIM +/-
> 9 Brendan Morrison C JR 112 71 125 196 107 66
> 19 Jason Botterill LW JR 108 67 58 125 354 48
> 18 John Madden F JR 118 54 63 117 67 70
> 28 Warren Luhning RW JR 114 50 62 112 286 70
> 15 Mike Legg F JR 118 39 61 100 66 51

> 27 Blake Sloan D JR 118 10 43 53 163 81
> 4 Chris Frescoln D JR 63 2 17 19 106 45
> 5 Peter Bourke D JR 55 2 11 13 28 33

The following is RPI's Class of 1986 (the class that entered in
1982) with statistics for their first three years. It does not
include Jeff Prendergast who graduated with that class although he
entered a year earlier. It also does not include transfers John
Tiano (from BU who played his Junior and Senior years with this
class) and Jeff Whiteside (from NMU who played sporadically
and probably was considered as a member of this class also).
(Sources: RPI 85-86 media guide for Carter, Jooris, and Dark
and the 85-86 Sporting News Hockey Register for the others.) I do
not think that RPI kept +/- stats at the time or at least I could
not find them.

NO NAME POS YR GP G A PTS PIM
  12 Adam Oates C JR 98 66 150 216 52
  15 John Carter LW JR 104 94 90 184 137
   9 George Servinis LW JR 75 74 67 141 80
   7 Mark Jooris RW JR 86 50 73 123 34
  22 Mike Dark D JR 103 12 54 66 190
  11 Kraig Nienhuis F JR 95 30 33 63 115

     totals 561 326 467 793 608

Clearly, this class did not have the depth that Michigan's junior
class has (no RPI class ever does) but considering the lesser
amount of games played, the stats are at least as good. (One could
debate the quality of competition, especially after their Sophomore
season when the ECAC broke up into the ECAC and HEA.) Note that
Servinis missed most of his Sophomore season while trying out for
the Canadian Olympic team. He was cut, despite being the second
leading scorer in the pre-Olympic tour, after an injury and
returned to RPI.

Note also that three of the above did not return for their senior
season (Oates, Servinis, and Nienhuis). Interestingly, five of
these six played at least a couple of games in the NHL, all except
for Jooris who played for Canada's National team and for a short time
in the AHL after leaving RPI.
