I'm having a bit of trouble, possibly due to faulty recollection on my part.
I keep running into the name Miami Redskins here and there. I thought that
the name of the Miami University teams was the Redmen. Which is right? I
find it difficult to credit the former name considering the reputation that
Miami U. has in cooperation with the Miami nation of native Americans, offering
numerous educational opportunities to them; I recall Miami being mentioned
in the press when Eastern Michigan University elected to drop their Hurons
nickname and go to a football bowl game with no nickname: newspaper columnist
Bob Greene pointed out Miami U. as an example of how EMU should have responded
to the complaints.
So what is it: Redskins or Redmen?
My thanks.
