to open the season with a first place finish in their Tournament.

tough contest follows the next night when the Griffs travel to Mercyhurst.
ELMIRA: This is supposed to be a rebuilding year for Elmira, but don't
tell that to Oswego or Plattsburgh, who both suffered season-opening
losses at the hands of the Soaring Eagles. Elmira opens their ECAC
West season this Saturday at Hobart, followed by a mid-week contest at
Buffalo State.
HOBART: The Statesmen ended their losing streak, but only went 1-2 in
the process, beating Iona but losing to SUNYAC rivals Geneseo and
Cortland. Hobart hosts Elmira in their lone game this week.
MERCYHURST : The Lakers lost a heartbreaker to Niagara, giving up the
tying goal with just 18 seconds left in regulation, and then losing
the game in overtime. Mercyhurst rebounded to pound Villanova 16-0 the
next day, but the Lakers have to be disappointed with their 3-2 start.
They host Canisius in their first conference game of the year on Saturday.
NIAGARA - The Purple Eagles scored their first major win of the season,
coming back from 2 goals down to defeat Mercyhurst in the first round
of the RIT Tournament. Niagara played well in the early going the next
night against host RIT, but eventually found themselves on the wrong
end of a 9-4 score. Niagara travels to Colorado Springs this weekend
for a pair against Air Force.

Villanova and Niagara by a combined score of 29-7. RIT trailed Niagara
3-2 at then end of the first period of Saturday's championship game,

away.Junior forward Steve Toll has 3 hat-tricks in his first 3 games
