Trailing 6-0 with 2:48 left in the middle period, UIC head coach Larry Pedrie
pulled his goaltender and played the entire third period (except for 22 seconds
when killing a penalty) with six skaters. The Flames outscored the Broncos 4-3
over the final 20 minutes but fell 9-4 in Kalamazoo. WMU's Jeremy Brown and
Brian Gallentine each had hat tricks, while rookie blueliner Steve Duke had
four assists. Kevin O'Keefe had two goals for UIC, while Shannon Finn added
one goal and two assists. Brian Renfrew made 30 saves for the Broncos
including 16 in the final stanza. Illinois @ Chicago's loss clinched home ice
for the Michigan Wolverines.
