Of course, who knows if the group of people in St Paul was an accurate
cross-section of hockey fans; I don't even think HOCKEY-L is. And
perhaps Shawn's argument is that when the fans get to actually see a
shootout, they will find it exciting and it will lure them back to
future games. But I would point to the reaction of people after the
gold medal shootout. True, everyone thought it was exciting; but most
were disappointed that a game, let alone a gold medal, was decided in
that fashion.

While I still prefer moving to a ten minute OT, if we in fact do go to a
shootout, one hopes that it will never be used in any sort of post-season
play.
I don't really follow professional hockey much, but friends of mine who do
seem to be in favor of adding a shootout for the regular season, but
keeping it out of the playoffs. Maybe the NCAA will follow these
guidelines. (Notice that I said NCAA - if only one or two conferences are
into it, then it shouldn't be anywhere......)
